OC beach rules vary sharply by city and season. These three options cover the dedicated dog beach plus two good leashed alternatives.
Huntington Dog Beach
The classic OC dog-beach day. The sand is leash optional, but dogs must stay leashed in the parking area and on the upper bluff.

Laguna Beach City Beaches
Leashed dogs are welcome year-round, but summer access is limited. From June 15 through September 10, dogs are allowed only before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
A leash no longer than six feet is required.

Newport Beach Coastline
Leashed dogs can join you before 10 a.m. and after 4:30 p.m. Dogs are not permitted on the beach or beachfront sidewalks during the middle of the day.

The Cliff Restaurant
An ocean-view patio that welcomes dogs and offers a puppy menu, making it an easy stop after a coastal walk.
